UnitProof finds product variants whose unit price — €/kg, €/L, €/m², €/item — is missing or incomplete, proposes the right measurement, and writes it to Shopify in bulk once the merchant confirms it. It keeps a record of what it changed so the store can undo it. This page describes exactly what the app reads, what it keeps, where it keeps it, and when it is deleted.
No shopper data, ever
UnitProof does not request, receive or store any personal data about a store's customers. It holds no names, email addresses, postal addresses, phone numbers, payment details or orders. The app asks Shopify only for permission to read and write products and to read inventory items, and it has no technical means to reach customer records.
What the app stores
- the store's myshopify.com domain, name, contact email, currency, unit system, time zone and locale;
- for each product variant: its Shopify identifiers, product title and handle, variant title, SKU, vendor, product type, tags, status, option values and collection membership;
- each variant's price, its unit price measurement as read from Shopify, and its shipping weight;
- the measurement UnitProof proposes for a variant, and which source it came from;
- for every bulk change the merchant makes: the values before and after, per variant, so the change can be reversed;
- the access token Shopify issues for the store, so the app can read the catalog and write the merchant's changes back;
- the name of the app plan the store is subscribed to.
Where it is stored
In the European Union. The application runs on Render and the database is Neon Postgres, both in the Frankfurt region. Store data is not transferred outside the European Economic Area. Because the app holds no customer personal data, the only personal data involved is the merchant's own business contact details and the identity of the staff account that installed the app.
Errors are reported to Sentry to help us fix faults. Error reports carry the store domain and a technical stack trace, never catalog contents.
How long it is kept
- On uninstall the access token is deleted immediately and the store is marked as uninstalled. The catalog record and the change history are kept for up to 48 hours, so a merchant who reinstalls can still undo a change they made before leaving.
- Within 48 hours of uninstall — or immediately when Shopify sends a shop erasure request, or when the merchant presses delete in the app's settings — everything the app holds about the store is permanently deleted.
- Per-variant before/after detail is deleted 60 days after a change. The rollback window is 30 days, so the detail has no further use; a summary line of what happened remains.
What the app writes back to Shopify
Only the unit price measurement of a product variant — the package quantity, its unit, the reference quantity and its unit — and whether Shopify should display it. Only after the merchant has reviewed a preview and confirmed the change. UnitProof never edits prices, compare-at prices, descriptions, images, inventory quantities, or anything else.
Rights
A merchant can delete everything the app holds at any time, from the app's settings page or by uninstalling. We respond to Shopify's mandatory data-request and erasure webhooks. To ask what we hold, or to have it removed sooner, write to the address below.
